Privacy Policy
How Coastal POS collects, uses and protects your personal information.
This policy explains how Coastal POS (formerly Coastal Cash Registers), ABN 31 688 997 391, handles the personal information we collect through our website, over the phone, by email and in the course of supplying and supporting point-of-sale systems. We handle personal information in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).
1. What personal information we collect
Depending on how you interact with us, we may collect:
- Contact details — your name, business name, phone number, email and location.
- Enquiry details — the message, product interest or booking details you send through our contact form, by phone or by email.
- Account and service information — details we need to install, configure and support your POS system, and to invoice you.
- Website usage data — information collected automatically through cookies and analytics, such as pages visited and general location.
We do not seek to collect sensitive information through this website. Please don’t send us sensitive information unless we specifically ask for it.
2. How we collect it
We collect personal information directly from you when you complete a contact or demo-booking form, call or email us, message us on social media, become a customer, or meet with our team on-site. We also collect some information automatically when you browse the site, and occasionally from referral partners where you’ve asked them to put us in touch.
3. How we use your information
- Respond to your enquiry and arrange a quote, demo or booking.
- Supply, install, configure and support your POS system.
- Process invoices and manage our business relationship with you.
- Send service updates and, where you’ve agreed, occasional offers or news (you can opt out at any time).
- Improve our website, products and customer support.
4. When we share your information
We don’t sell your personal information. We only disclose it where it’s needed to provide our services or where the law requires it, including to:
- POS and technology vendors (such as the providers of Zii, Ai-Menu, Horizon and Uniwell) where needed to set up or support your system;
- service providers that help us run our business — payment, accounting, email, hosting and IT support providers;
- professional advisers or authorities where required or authorised by law.
Some providers may store data on secure cloud servers. Where information is handled outside Australia, we take reasonable steps to ensure it is protected consistently with the APPs.
5. Cookies and website analytics
Our website uses cookies and analytics tools (such as Google Analytics) to understand how visitors use the site so we can improve it. This data is generally aggregated and does not identify you personally. You can disable cookies in your browser settings, though some parts of the site may not work as well.
6. Storage and security
We take reasonable steps to protect your personal information from misuse, loss, and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure, including secured systems, restricted access and trusted service providers. We keep personal information only for as long as we need it, or as required by law, then take reasonable steps to destroy or de-identify it.
7. Accessing and correcting your information
You can ask us what personal information we hold about you and request that we correct it if it’s inaccurate or out of date. Contact us using the details below and we’ll respond within a reasonable time. There’s no charge to make a request, though we may need to verify your identity first.
8. Complaints
If you believe we’ve mishandled your personal information, please contact us first so we can look into it and put things right. If you’re not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.
